So I'm still trying to build some more interest in this book club by advertising around the area and harrassing my friends about it, but stay tuned for dates and times for the first meeting. I'm hoping it will be some time in June but it's a busy month, and also I'll be going on vacation as well as ononotagain, who's helping me out.
Not this week, but perhaps next week? Perhaps Saturday, the 11th, in the afternoon? My schedule doesn't work with any other day that week, and after that it'll be near impossible any other day that month.
And remember, tell your friends who like reading to come along as well. I don't want a million people but maybe 10 or 12 would be a good size. At least 8.
Suggestions for the 1st book are:
*Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (I know, I know, but it's actually one of the better written "teen novels" out there)
*Haunted, the new Chuck Palahniuk book
*Slouching Toward Nirvana, The new Charles Bukowski book of poetry
*My Invented Country, one of Isabel Allende's two biographies
Any other suggestions? Any of these books not sounding like something you want to read? And keep in mind, the point of this club is sort of to reach beyond what you would normally read... so sometimes it'll be book you might not be into so much and sometimes it'll be a book you absolutely adore. Just keep an open mind, eh? :)
Does anyone have any qualms, by the way, about reading the new Harry Potter book when it comes out in July? I'm personally pretty excited about it and would love to discuss it in a group setting.
Peace, love, and happy reading
