Katchoo is at work and asked me to post this:

The first official meeting will be Saturday at One o'clock... She forgot to tell me where so I am not sure if its planned at a specific place yet. At this meeting we will discuss what book we will read first, any sugestions are welcome, a small snyopsis is welcome but title and author are needed... (of course)
The following meeting will be the discussion of the book we choose, we will also decide at the first meeting when the following meeting will be...

So, what would everyone prefer: Wednesday evenings (which is my personal preference) or Sunday evenings, for regular meetings? Or, possibly, switching it up? Or, actually, both? I was thinking about doing two meetings a month: one of them maybe on Wednesday and one of them on Sunday.

Also, I wanted to integrate music and movies into the club. As in, once a month we would have a meeting discussing a book, and then the second meeting day that month we could get together to discuss music/movies (either by watching said movie at the meeting and THEN discussing it or already having watched said movie and just discussing it at the meeting).

I was thinking about adding the music/movie aspect once we already become established, but I wanted to get some feedback and see how everyone feels about it.

But first let me know what days work for everyone since it seems that Saturday is an awful day for everyone (including me, really, though I'd still like to do that first meeting on the 11th since I won't really be free again till July.

Happy Reading!

Dates for the first book club: when is everyone available?

I'm thinking Saturday the 11th for the first meeting (I know that doesn't really work for you, Scooter, but it's just the first one and hopefully you'll be able to come to the others).

For the future, though, I'm thinking Wednesday evenings. Does that not work for anyone?

Feedback would be awesome, so I can know what's best for everyone. :)

So I'm still trying to build some more interest in this book club by advertising around the area and harrassing my friends about it, but stay tuned for dates and times for the first meeting. I'm hoping it will be some time in June but it's a busy month, and also I'll be going on vacation as well as ononotagain, who's helping me out.

Not this week, but perhaps next week? Perhaps Saturday, the 11th, in the afternoon? My schedule doesn't work with any other day that week, and after that it'll be near impossible any other day that month.

Questions? Comments?

And remember, tell your friends who like reading to come along as well. I don't want a million people but maybe 10 or 12 would be a good size. At least 8.

Suggestions for the 1st book are:

*Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (I know, I know, but it's actually one of the better written "teen novels" out there)

*Haunted, the new Chuck Palahniuk book

*Slouching Toward Nirvana, The new Charles Bukowski book of poetry

*My Invented Country, one of Isabel Allende's two biographies

Any other suggestions? Any of these books not sounding like something you want to read? And keep in mind, the point of this club is sort of to reach beyond what you would normally read... so sometimes it'll be book you might not be into so much and sometimes it'll be a book you absolutely adore. Just keep an open mind, eh? :)

Does anyone have any qualms, by the way, about reading the new Harry Potter book when it comes out in July? I'm personally pretty excited about it and would love to discuss it in a group setting.

Peace, love, and happy reading

So... I see we only have 6 members.
Maybe it's because of the community's name.
Ummm... whatever.
I was just curious if we're ever going to actually have meetings.
You know, like a real book club.
I'm really excited about the possibility of discussing books with fellow readers.
That's all for now.

Join one! Join all!

May take a while to gather up enough people to join the club, but hopefully I can get people as excited about it as I am. :)
